As coronavirus takes its toll on airlines, the latest flight sale lets Australian travellers nab an eight-hour international flight for less than the cost of a Sydney to Melbourne flight.
Upon launching AirAsia’s BIG Sale, CEO Karen Chan said, “AirAsia understands the current sentiments of our customers … that’s why we’re providing ample opportunity to book in advance for an affordable getaway from early September.”
Rock bottom fares include flights from the Gold Coast to Kuala Lumpur from $80, Perth to Lombok and Bali from $89 plus low onward fares to more than 160 destinations (spanning across Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, India, Japan, Korea and Taiwan).
To put those prices into perspective, if you were to book a Jetstar flights from Sydney to Melbourne (a 1.5-hour trip) during the same period, you’d be looking at paying $82.
Six million promotional seats are being offered, for travel between September 7, 2020 and July 1, 2021.

Checked baggage can also be pre-booked at 10 per cent less for 25kg and above. Baggage discounts are only applicable at the time of booking a flight during the promotional period.
The AirAsia BIG Sale is on now, and ends March 15, 2020 (2400 GMT +8). All-in fares include taxes and fees. Baggage discount is not applicable for AirAsia Japan (carrier code DJ) and flights to/from Japan.
