Love Island Australia contestant’s awkward travel admission

A Love Island contestant has engaged in a cringe-worthy conversation, admitting her geography knowledge wasn’t exactly up to scratch.

A Love Island Australia contestant has admitted to an awkward geography fail, telling a fellow contestant she had no idea Indonesia and Thailand were different countries.

Tayla Mellington, a 26-year-old from the Gold Coast, is one of the more than 20 contestants to try and find a partner on Love Island Australia this year.

Ms Mellington has most recently coupled up with 25-year-old Central Coast carpenter Ryan Reid, and the pair have already had some wild conversations.

One of their latest chats left viewers scratching their heads, with Mr Reid kicking off the bizarre conversation by telling Ms Mellington he’d ridden an ostrich.

“Where? In Austria?” Ms Mellington replied.

“In Vietnam,” Mr Reid said.

“Aw, Vietnam’s like Thai ... like Asia?” Ms Mellington responded.

“Yeah so you got like Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia,” Mr Reid said, gesturing with his hands in an attempt to explain their locations.

Mr Reid’s brief geography lesson kicked off a wild admission from Ms Mellington, who admitted she often struggled in her travel job.

“You know what’s so bad? I work in travel and I don‘t know where anything is,” she said.

“People call up and say, ‘I’m going from Bali to Thailand’ and I’m like, ‘is that international travel?’. I wouldn’t know, or is that domestic?”

“It’s international,” Mr Reid said.

“See I have no f**king idea because they’re all in the same f**king country,” Ms Mellington replied.

Without missing a beat, Mr Reid launched into another geography lesson for his fellow Love Island contestant.

“Bali, Singapore and stuff, that’s Indonesia but Thailand and stuff, that’s Asia,” he said.

Snorting with laughter, Ms Mellington admitted, “I did not know that, no idea”.

“And you got Europe at the top,” Mr Reid said, continuing his lesson.

“Yeah I know where Europe is,” Ms Mellington clapped back.

Mr Reid carried on his country explanation, gesturing to Ms Mellington “and Japan is by itself”.

“What did you study a map?” Ms Mellington jabbed.

“No I’m actually generally smart,” Mr Reid said, ending the conversation and attempting to reassure his partner of his geography knowledge.
