Flying on the world’s best first class airline, Singapore Airlines

Ever wondered what it would be like to fly in the best first class cabin in the world? This is what the premium experience includes.

Lobster thermidor for dinner and a luxurious double bed in your own private suite – that is what flying at the most luxurious level on Singapore Airlines looks like.

The airline was named the world’s best first class airline in the 2022 Skytrax World Airline Awards, dubbed the “Oscars of Aviation”.

While a first class seat offers an extra-wide leather seat that folds flat, the first class suite (found on the Airbus A380) includes a leather reclining chair plus an actual bed in your own private space with a door. There is also a 32-inch HD touchscreen television.

It would be easy to forget you are in a plane 40,000 feet above the ground.

If you are travelling with someone you can book two adjoining suites to have a larger suite with a double bed.

Both first class seats and suites have a “Book the Cook” option where you can order dishes up to 24 hours before your flight that you wouldn’t normally find on a plane.

The menu from Sydney includes lobster thermidor, grilled beef in green peppercorn sauce, roast chicken breast with mushroom cream, Tasmanian salmon in wild lime butter, and barramundi with steamed rice.

Singapore Airlines’ fine wine list is tested under cabin pressure by wine critics to ensure they are of top quality while served in the air. They say more than 1000 wines are tested each year.

The airline also holds the more specific titles of ‘best first class airline seats in 2022’ and ‘best first class on-board catering 2022’.

The world’s second best first class airline is currently Dubai-based airline Emirates.

Emirates describes its first class experience on the A380 “as close as it comes to your own private jet”.

The seats convert into a fully flat bed with sheets and sliding doors offer privacy. Passengers get a Byredo skincare collection – as well as access to the shower spa on board with Bulgari amenity kits.

The shower spa even includes a heated floor where you can change the temperature to exactly how you like it.

The long-haul in-flight menu includes the option of caviar for an appetiser, a tofu poké bowl for a light snack, and pan-seared salmon trout for a main meal.

Rounding out the top 10 of the world’s best first class airlines is Swiss International Air Lines (which also has the ‘world’s best first class airline lounge’ at Zurich Airport), Air France, ANA All Nippon Airways, Lufthansa, Japan Airlines, Qatar Airways (awarded ‘world’s best airline’), British Airways and Korean Air.

Meanwhile, Qantas secured 14th spot for its first class experience.

But they may only hold those spots for another few months with the 2023 Skytrax World Airline Awards to be held in Paris in June.
