READY, set, jealousy!

Have you ever wondered just what happens on the other side of the curtain, at the pointy end of the plane? Travel website Cheapflights.com.au has provided a glimpse at how airlines pamper their upper class passengers, by analysing the world’s best airline amenity kits — an essential and cherished part of the “high flying” experience.

Cheapflights tested out 48 kits from business and first class across 27 carriers, giving their tick of approval to Emirates, Etihad, Japan Airlines, Qatar and United Airlines, all named equal best.

“These kits had us dreaming of the high life, with bling-tastic bags, upper crust combs, luxurious lip balms, and sumptuous slippers — but we can’t help thinking a little bit more deodorant wouldn’t go a miss,” Cheapflights spokeswoman Oonagh Shiel said of the winners.

Only seven of the 48 amenity kits analysed had deodorant! That’s despite the upper class kits being stuffed full of luxury brands such as Bulgari and random items such as shoe horns, “pulse point oil” and “pillow mists”.

Oonagh said the dream amenity kit would combine:

• Etihad’s limited-edition artisan kit bag

• Japan Airlines’ beautifully-designed toothbrush

• Garuda’s hair brush and shoe horn

• Turkish Airlines’ ear plugs

• Swiss Airlines’ La Prairie moisturiser

• Air New Zealand’s “Beware I Sleepwalk” eye mask

• Vietnam Airlines’ lip balm

• Turkish Airlines’ non-slip socks
