Wild UK Airbnb host charging $100-a-night to stay in backyard
An Airbnb host has inadvertently gone viral on social media after her backyard listing was spotted by a desperate tourist.
A man was left stunned by a “tropical” Airbnb in the UK available for £50 ($A94) per night – only to discover it was just a tent.
Jordan Lewis was on the hunt for some cheap accommodation in Birmingham he’d be able to stay at during the Commonwealth Games this July/August, The Sun reports.
While he was searching, Jordan found a place which piqued his interest.
But when he clicked on the Airbnb listing, he discovered it was just a tent in someone’s garden.
Host Brenda described the accommodation as: “Tropical garden oasis – unique camping experience.”
She also kindly confirmed guests would have access to the entire tent and they could go inside to use the toilet in her house.
Jordan took to Twitter to share his discovery.
“Trying to find some reasonable accom. in [Birmingham] for the Commonwealth Games because they’re all inflated at £300+ a night,” he wrote.
“Found one on Airbnb for £50, only to click on it and be in a TENT IN SOMEONE’S GARDEN.”
Jordan added: “At least you get the whole place and it’s an oasis … in Birmingham.”
His tweet was hit with dozens of comments.
“This … is the worst thing I have ever seen,” one wrote.
Jordan replied: “Honestly! She charges £10 ($A18) to use the outside log heater too if you’re cold.”
Jordan later admitted he would probably book it.
“At this rate though, going to end up booking it,” he said.
The tent boasts glowing feedback on the holiday rental site, with five stars from all seven reviews.
One person wrote: “Had an amazing stay. The outdoor experience is highly recommended. Loved every bit.”
Another said: “I would definitely recommend staying there to others.”
Airbnb rules stuns guest
In other news, a woman was left stunned after being given a huge list of rules at her Airbnb – including how to use the shower curtain and using the wrong cups.
TikTok user Tiffany shared the video last month.
“My most recent Airbnb host had a few controlling quirks,” she said in the video.
“Before you even walk in, you get hit with a huge information guide on what to do and you have to take it off the door and hang it on the inside.
“Next is the amount of information given every moment after that, in every way possible, in every part of the room.
“My favourite of all the information pieces? She draws a picture of the remote control and teaches you how to use each button.
“There is even a note on how to use the vent and how to use the storage bins.”
Another thing she was doing wrong, according to the host, was using the wrong glass to drink from.
She continued: “One of my top favourites was … using the wrong cup to drink my water.”
Even having a simple shower had its own rules.
Tiffany finished: “Another good one – you want to move the shower curtain left to right? No, it has to be right to left.”
