TEEN “drama queens” who have fallen out of friendships are inundating Schoolies organisers desperately trying to change their holiday bookings.
Many Gold Coast schoolies have to book their rooms up to 18 months in advance due to demand, but are often no longer friends by the time the week-long party is due to start.
More than 30,000 school leavers are expected to flood Surfers Paradise in a fortnight.
Schoolies.com chief executive Matt Lloyd said nearly 50 per cent of booking had been modified this year so far, many in the past month.
“It seems to be prevalent among girls,” he said.
“Quite often they’ll book 12 to 18 months in advance and sometimes the whole room will change around.
“One girl moves in and then another one moves out. Funnily sometimes it goes back to what it originally was ... it’s almost like a circle.”

But Mr Lloyd said the boys caused less hassle for the five phone staff based on the Gold Coast. “Sometimes it happens with boys but it tends to be more the girls,” Mr Lloyd said. “The boys don’t seem to have as many issues in their circle of friends.”
Mr Lloyd said online room changes were possible up to a month before Schoolies, after that the partygoers must phone the office.
“It gets pretty busy,” he said.
“We try to make it easier by designating one room organiser and they’re the only ones who can make online changes. But as we get closer, we find that parents get involved. and step in — particularly if there has been an argument.”
Mr Lloyd encouraged future schoolies to think carefully about their room arrangements to avoid the hassle.
“It’s easily changed but it’s better if they book and it doesn’t change,” he said.
“It’s less hassle for everyone.”
Schoolies can change their bookings up until the day before the school leavers’ celebration which starts on November 22 for Queenslanders. Some room transfers include a $60 fee.
