The Blue Lagoon Princess hotel in Greece ‘an absolute disgrace’
HOLIDAYMAKERS were shocked and furious to arrive at their five star hotel in Greece only to find it was still under construction.
HOLIDAYMAKERS were left shocked and furious when they turned up to find their five star accommodation still under construction.
The luxury Blue Lagoon Princess hotel in the Halkidiki region of Greece was called “an absolute disgrace” by some of its guests who complained that it looked like a “building site” with exposed wires, rooms unfinished and littered with building equipment.
Part of UK tour operator Thomson’s portfolio of platinum range of hotels, the newly constructed hotel opened its doors on May 4 but was far from ready.
Jess Woodhouse who was on holiday with her mum posted photos on Twitter said “there are serious health safety issues,” and “this hotel should never have opened ... AVOID.”
Reviews on TripAdvisor included “honeymoon ruined” and “Blue Lagoon NOT-SO Princess.”
“Thomsons sold me a Rolex and gave me a timex,” wrote onholidayingreece.
“Arrived for honeymoon today and the hotel isn’t finished yet, it is a building site and is actually dangerous with exposed wires, raised drain covers and unfinished paving/facilities everywhere you look. We booked jacuzzi room with sea view and after 6 hours of waiting for a room key, were told jacuzzi rooms won’t be finished for another week!!!,” wrote sampascoe1973.
“There was dirt everywhere, rooms unfinished, wires hanging out the ceiling, screws all over the floor,” wrote honesttravelgirl.
Guests were moved to other hotels after lengthy delays and some were offered compensation. Thomsons now reassures guests that the hotel is complete and some reviewers on TripAdvisor have praised it’s “amazing turnaround,”

A statement from Thomson apologised for the ordeal:
“Thomson would like to apologise to the small number of our customers who were the first to arrive at the Blue Lagoon Princess in Halkidiki on May 4 and were impacted by the completion of final work on the hotel.
“As soon as we were made aware of the situation, our resort team worked closely with the hotel to arrange suitable alternative accommodation for affected customers. We also offered a gesture of goodwill for the inconvenience in line with our terms and conditions, which were accepted by customers at the time of booking.
“We would like to reassure customers that while it is rare to delay the opening of a hotel, we continually monitor all the hotels in our program to ensure they meet our high standards and guests currently on holiday at the Blue Lagoon Princess are enjoying their stay.”
Unfortunately for these sorry guests, their holiday was ruined.
