A LUXURY resort in California is giving guests the chance to drive newly released Porsches during their stay.

Rancho Valencia, in Rancho Santa Fe 40km north of San Diego, has three models available — a 911 convertible, a Panamera Hybrid and a Cayenne GTS. They are available for guests to drive for free, provided they return the car the same day. Guests need to bring their valid driver’s licence and a California Insurance Certificate (SR-22) that covers driving a vehicle in the US. The concierge can recommend places to explore such as the beaches of La Jolla, Temecula’s wine country or the Gaslamp Quarter of downtown San Diego. Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa recently reopened to guests after a $US30 million ($A32 million) renovation. The Mediterranean-inspired Relais & Châteaux property has 49 guest casitas with private patios, a three-bedroom hacienda, a day spa and fine dining restaurant. Room prices start from about $A717 a night. See ranchovalencia.com
