Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas charges $57 to store personal items in mini bar
YOU’D better think twice before you chuck that bottle of water or half-eaten sandwich inside the minibar — or you could end up getting hit with an extra fee.
IT’S something we all do in our hotel room, but this simple act could now end up getting us in grief.
And it all comes down to the minibar. You’d better think twice before you chuck that bottle of water or half-eaten sandwich inside — or you could end up getting hit with an extra fee.
That’s if you’re staying at Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
In a bid to get more guests paying for those expensive minibar drinks, the hotel is threatening to fine those who store their own items in the fridge $57 ($US50), the UK’S Telegraph reports.
Travel blogger Keri Anderson from HeelsFirstTravel.com issued the alert after she learnt of the fee as she went to place her own wine in the fridge. She spotted a message attached to a bottle of water stating: “Storing of personal items in the minibar will result in a $50 restocking fee. Refrigerators are available through guest services for $35 a night.”
The fridges use sensors to detect changes in weight when an item is added or removed.
Let’s hope this is one fee that doesn’t catch on.
