Wine and a long weekend, is there really a better match?

With NSW feeling all kinds of freedoms heading into summer after one very dark winter, many are using any weekend possible to snap up a stay anywhere along the east coast.

But if you’re after a suite escape that won’t break the bank — and also brings hints of luxury to the countryside — the newest offering at one of the south coast’s most popular wineries is sure to impress.

Cupitt’s Estate is a well-known and much-loved family winery on the south coast of NSW.

Generating popularity by offering long lunches, plenty of space for the kids as well as wine, beer and cheese making — the property (described as a “triple threat” venue) has evolved into one of the most sought-after destinations.

With copious room for a bite overlooking the rolling hills, Cupitt’s introduction of 10 luxurious ‘wine pods’ for overnight stays matched the demand for weddings at the farm — officially making it an all-in-one destination.

Sitting just 3.5 hours south of Sydney, Cupitt’s Estate spreads across 76 hectares and is now ‘complete’ with the ‘wine pods’ open for stays on the property.

While officially in Ulladulla, the pods are closer to the quaint township of Milton and seaside hide-out of Mollymook.

The winery itself is surrounded by vast green hills and dotted with the farm’s 70 black angus cattle.

A stone’s throw from the sea, it’s the perfect coastal-meets-country escape for couples or a girl’s weekend given each pod is just footsteps from the cellar door and adjoining restaurant.

Each pod, as the name suggested, has been designed and developed for the ultimate intimate escape. Accommodating just two people within the 46-sq m space, these modern pods boast everything you need for a weekend away.

With lush king beds in a separate bedroom, the living area sprawls onto the outdoor deck that’s framed with views of the surrounding paddocks and Budawang Ranges.

The best part – and where you’ll be sure to get your next Insta-snap — is from the feature freestanding outdoor bathtubs that look over the ranges as the sun sets over your private balcony.

Watching the sun set from the bubbles while sipping a glass of bubbles is perhaps the perfect way to start — or end — your stay.

On arrival, guests receive a welcome drink and will be treated to a complimentary in-room bottle of Cupitt’s Estate Sparkling wine, mini bar items (including local chocolate, mixed nuts and bottled water), as well as a wine tasting experience in the Cupitt’s Estate Cellar Door.

Breakfast hampers using locally made products are also included for the first night of each stay so you don’t need to venture outdoors. But they are also small enough to leave room for a long lunch at the winery’s signature restaurant — which you can’t leave the winery without visiting.

The award-winning restaurant has an incredible three-course menu, with some of the highlights including the winery owner Rosie’s whipped feta with roe, chives and sourdough flatbread, the mussels and clams in chardonnay vinegar and seaweed butter or the pan-fried Murray cod with Tuscan kale, Warrigal Greens and Garlic Scape butter sauce.

Single night stays start from $450 per night for a midweek stay and $500 per night on weekends.
