Airbnb searching for someone to live rent-free in Italy for a year

Airbnb is offering one lucky person the opportunity to live rent-free in Italy for a year in a newly renovated three-bedroom townhouse.

If you’ve ever dreamt of living rent-free in Italy you could finally have the opportunity.

Airbnb is looking for someone to live for a year in a restored Italian heritage home in Sicily at no cost.

The three-storey townhouse is located in Sambuca, a small rural village of about 6000 people in the Italian region of Sicily that became famous when many of its homes put on sale for just €1 ($A1.60).

“With a newfound flexibility to live and work remotely, one person will be given the opportunity to relocate to Sicily with their family, partner, or friend and move into this uniquely restored house,” the Airbnb post states.

“Ideal candidates should be committed to hosting and contributing to village life.

“Their Sambuca residence will take place over a one-year period beginning June 30th, with the successful applicant retaining all earnings from hosting on Airbnb.”

So what’s the catch?

Well there is one small catch, while the successful applicant will live rent-free and can chose which room they want, the second bedroom will be listed on Airbnb. However, all the money from the rental will be given to the applicant.

“The host will welcome Airbnb guests from around the world for at least nine months of their year in the 1 Euro House,” information provided on the website states.

They will also need to demonstrate a commitment to “hosting and to contributing to village life”.

The good news is the home has been given a designer makeover, thanks to Italian architectural firm Studio Didea.

“The spacious building spans three floors, with plenty of room to work remotely and host on Airbnb,” the post states.

“The ground floor comprises a small living room, master bedroom with kingsize bed and ensuite bathroom.

“The first floor includes a living room, kitchen, working space, bathroom and mezzanine bedroom with a kingsize bed.

“The upper floor includes an additional living space with a queen-size sofa bed.”

The applicant will be able to bring friends and family to live with them but there is a limit of two adults and two children in total.

Applicants will also get the opportunity to participate in a mentorship program: learning Italian and attending Italian cooking classes.

Candidates must be over 18, available to move to Sambuca, Sicily, for at least three consecutive months starting from June 30th, and be able to speak conversational English, with Italian bonus.
