Queensland snake wrangler ‘shocked’ by carpet python under wheelie bin

A wrangler was “genuinely shocked” after finding “one of the biggest carpet pythons I’ve caught in years” under a wheelie bin.

Giant python discovered under Queensland woman's rubbish bin

An experienced snake catcher has said he was “genuinely surprised” by the size of a “monster” carpet python hiding under a wheelie bin outside a Queensland home.

Stu from Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers warned people to be careful of the “small gap in the bin,” as he stood in the backyard of a home in Nambour. “What you’re about to see is pretty amazing, what size snake (that’s) able to squeeze under this bin.”

But even the seasoned snake wrangler was shocked by the size of the snake, and yelled out as he lifted up the bin. “Holy! Look at the size of it! That is double the size of what I was thinking,” he said.

Stu said from looking at the size of the courtyard, he’d assumed the python would be much smaller than it was – and joked a pillow case he’d brought to bag up the python was definitely not going to be big enough to house the monster snake.

Stu said in a Facebook post it was “one of the biggest carpet pythons I’ve caught in years”.

“As you can tell I was pretty stoked,” he said. “He was taken a good distance away to live a longer life and hopefully not scare anymore old ladies!!!”

The post quickly went viral and has attracted more than 5600 reactions and 3600 comments.

“Absolutely beautiful! I can’t believe that snake fit under the wheelie bin,” one woman commented on the post.

“We definitely need to check more carefully in future when taking the bins out!”

“I’ve just taken the bins out for the last time … ever lol,” another woman joked.

“Another reason I love apartment life,” another said.
