A Mongols bikie became the centre of attention when he was snapped reeling in a shark off a beach in the country’s west.

The film industry has invented some pretty epic shark tales in our time, but nothing as Australian as this story coming from the country’s west.

Unbelievable pictures have captured the moment a member of an outlawed motorcycle gang wrangled one of the ocean’s most feared predators on a Western Australian beach.

Mongols bikie Troy Mercanti became the centre of attention when he was snapped grappling with what appeared to be a tiger shark caught on the end of his fishing line.

Mercanti appeared quite relaxed – barefoot and dressed in a black T-shirt and shorts – while holding a stout fishing rod with a heavy overhead reel.

Once he reeled in his prized possession, the bikie later posed with the shark for a photo, showing little fear that he could have lost his hand in the ordeal.

It’s believed the catch happened somewhere between Perth and Bunbury and brought in quite the crowd, The West Australian reports.

Mercanti has since updated his Facebook profile picture to reflect his successful fishing trip, where he’s seen casually lying on top of the shark.

While it’s not clear when he caught the creature, it’s understood the pictures were captured before the WA Government passed tough new bikie laws in 2021 banning insignia.

Under the Unlawful Consorting and Prohibited Insignia Bill, those caught displaying a distinguishing emblem of an identified organisation in a public place could be slapped with a maximum 12-month jail sentence and fines of up to $12,000 for individuals.

Mercanti is due to front court in March to contest allegations he breached orders that banned him from making contact with other bikies.
