South Australia earthquake: ‘So engrossed in a book I missed it’

SOUTH Australia was hit by a 3.7 magnitude earthquake, felt by people up to 46km away. It didn’t take long for social media to react.

SOUTH Australia was hit by a 3.7 magnitude earthquake and was felt by people up to 46km away from its epicentre.

The quake, which struck 9km southwest of Murray Bridge shortly after 12.30am at a depth of 8km, has not caused any injuries or damage, according to Geoscience Australia.

However thousands of people across the state reported feeling the tremor.

Angela Moro, who lives in Banksia Park wrote on The Adelaide Advertiser’s Facebook page that it, “felt like a roller coaster went through the house.”

Reader Jane Tarrant posted she heard a rumble in Aberfoyle Park but “thought it was my husband snoring!”.

Other social media users made light of the situation with memes and comments joking that the city will rebuild.

The South Australian quake follows a minor quake that shook homes in Gippsland jolting residents from their sleep yesterday.

The magnitude 3.3 earthquake struck near Foster, about 6.40am, but there were no reports of injuries or damage.
