‘Drop it like it’s hot’: The TikTok trend getting us through 2022

The ‘drop it’ TikTok challenge is exactly the escapism you need from an already hectic 2022.

The new year is already shaping up to be a bit of a downer, and my personal escapism of choice is TikTok. In particular, the TikTok challenge happening right now where people drop it like it’s hot to Beyoncé in incredibly random places.

The challenge was kicked off by comedian Atsuko Okatsuka when she shared this pure art to her TikTok:

There’s nothing like confusing the heck out of your poor grandparents, especially when it’s done to the very good Beyoncé, Yoncé.

As a journalist, I am simply here to share my favourite videos with you so that you too can enjoy a small serotonin rush in this increasingly crazy world – you’re welcome.

For me, this take is coming in strong as the second best take on dropping it like it’s hot:

@keelywins Ok but are y’all even ready for this masterpiece #dropchallenge DC: @Atsuko Okatsuka #yonce#bushdrop#wilsonsprom#melbourne#queertiktok♬ original sound - Atsuko Okatsuka

I also thoroughly appreciate anyone who’s able to convince all their fellow hotel workers to get in on the trend:

I also appreciate learning something new when I’m simply trying to entertain myself. Squatting over a toilet seat is bad for your pelvic floor muscles? Who knew?

If you’re still hovering in 2022, STOP.

And finally, another that made me laugh for the pure commitment to a gag, this very flexible young father:
