‘This car has been reported’: Notes left on Melbourne resident’s windscreen take ‘creepy’ turn

A Melbourne resident who left letters on his neighbour’s cars complaining about how they’re parked, could be in hot water for another crime.

A Melbourne neighbourhood dispute over cars has quite literally turned into a war of words, after one resident left several menacing notes on his neighbour’s vehicles.

In a post to Reddit, the receiver of the letters claims their neighbour printed several notices and placed them on cars parked within their front yard.

“Guy lives next door printing these notices and placing them in windscreen of cars that parked in front yard (sic),” the caption accompanying the post reads. “Old guy is running out of ink.”

Photos attached to the post show two of the bizarre notes, which are written in cap lock and large font, sitting under the window wipers on two separate occasions.

“This is not a car yard so please remove the cars. Have spoken to Littles the agent (who) will make an inspection,” one of the notes read.

“Cars … are all unroadworthy and the police are coming out to check them out.”

Meanwhile a second letter said: “The car has been reported to police as un road worthy (sic) and will be looking into the place you are going to”.

Despite their neighbour’s accusations, the recipient of the letters confirmed the four vehicles located on the property were all roadworthy and kept within their boundaries.

The post has since attracted hundreds of comments as Redditors determine who’s really at fault, with the majority siding with the owner of the cars.

“‘Will be looking into the place you’re going to’ bit odd mate,” one concerned user posted.

“He’s creeping on to your property to put these notices on? That’s not cool,” a second said, while countless others accused the angry neighbour of trespassing.

Meanwhile, others offered their suggestions on how the recipient of the letters could put an end to the man’s “creepy” behaviour.

“Put up a camera if he’s coming on your property,” one user said, while others suggested writing a letter back.

The recipient of the letters later commented that they had informed the police about the situation after more notes were found the day before.

While council areas usually have their own rules in regards to where and how someone can park in their street, there are no specific rules regarding how someone can park within their home.

According to VicRoads, situations where you can’t park include if you’re double parked, stopped within an intersection, fully or partially across a driveway for longer than two minutes or if there is fewer than three metres of clear road left for other traffic.

Additionally, cars can’t block off a nature strip or footpath for extended periods of time, in a bus, tram or track lane, on a painted island, and next to a continuous yellow line on the road’s kerb.

“You are allowed to park or leave your vehicle opposite a driveway as long as you leave three metres beside your vehicle (or) anywhere in a street where parking is permitted including in front of other homes or businesses,” VicRoads said on its website.
