Wild moment man in a supermarket trolley clings to moving truck

Shocking footage has surfaced showing a man clinging to a moving truck on a busy highway while sitting inside a shopping trolley.

The concerning scene was spotted by motorists just outside Pretoria, South Africa, on Sunday, with the trolley rider later featuring in multiple videos shared to Twitter.

In one video, the man in the trolley was shown laughing and waving while manoeuvring the trolley around - making the stunt even more dangerous.

The man appeared to have a firm grip on the truck as it moved at speed down the highway in wet weather.

Another video captured from a different angle showed the trolley rider bopping his head enthusiastically as cars passed by in neighbouring lanes.

Local media reported police were working to track down the man in the trolley, who executed the dangerous stunt the same day a level four weather warning was in place for disruptive rain.

Gauteng traffic police spokesperson Sello Maremane said on Monday authorities would investigate the incident, The South African reported.

“The Gauteng traffic police are disappointed with the behaviour of a hitchhiker who was seen travelling with a grocery trolley attached to a heavy motor vehicle yesterday on the 3rd of April on the N1 freeway in rainy conditions,” Mr Maremane said.

“Such behaviour is both irresponsible and illegal and will never be tolerated by law enforcement authorities.”

He added the man could face up to a year behind bars if he is convicted.
