The moment a stolen car smashed through an intersection before two teenagers fled the scene on foot has been captured in shocking dashcam footage.

Just after 4pm on Wednesday, the stolen BMW X5, which was earlier taken from a property in Stretton, in southern Brisbane, ploughed into a light post in Upper Coomera.

Shortly before crashing at the Abraham Road and Reserve Road intersection, teens were spotted by members of the public driving the vehicle dangerously.

Footage showed the car only narrowly avoided striking other motorists when it slammed to a stop, sending debris flying across the road and causing the airbags to deploy.

While the motorist behind the wheel of the car that captured the footage called police immediately, it was a member of the public that stepped in to detain the boys.

Another member of the public waved down a passing police car while police crews, including the dog squad, were also deployed.

In separate footage, one of the alleged offenders was seen facedown on the ground being put into handcuffs by a police officer.

Queensland Police have charged two 15-year-old boys following the crash.

Police were alerted at 3.55pm to the grey vehicle being driven in a dangerous manner heading north on the M1 near Upper Coomera.
