Widower’s touching words for wife killed in crash with allegedly stolen car
The 52-year-old woman was killed when her car was hit by an allegedly stolen car.
The husband of a woman who was killed in a crash allegedly involving a stolen car on says the pan of losing her “will always remain with me”.
Christella ‘Stella’ Tan died after being trapped in her Nissan Micra when it was struck from behind as she drove to work along Windsor Rd in Burnside last Friday morning.
The 52-year-old nurse’s car was allegedly hit by a stolen Mercedes hatchback, with 26-year-old Izak Kane Sefton-Bennett charged.
Family friend Kathleen Ashworth started a GoFundMe page on Friday morning, including a message from Ms Tan’s husband, Bernard Wee, in the campaign description.
“I was struck by her amazing effortlessness, friendliness and warmth … I was also gradually gaining self-confidence while overcoming my social limitations in meeting other people … she gradually changed me into a better person,” Mr Wee wrote.
“Stella will always be forever my wife, my soulmate and the true love of my life … This deep pain of not being together with her anymore will always remain with me.”
Ms Ashworth said the campaign is seeking $22,399 to cover the cost of Ms Tan’s funeral, and cover the cost of her damaged vehicle.
“As well as the loss of the love of his life, Bernard is hearing-impaired and relied greatly on Stella’s assistance for communicating with others,” Ms Ashworth wrote.
“Nothing will bring Stella back, but we can help lighten Bernard‘s load by reducing his financial stress.”
At the time of writing, $890 had been raised.
Mr Mr Sefton-Bennett faced Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Tuesday on 12 charges, including dangerous driving causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance; driver callous disregard to deceased; enter dwelling with intent; unlawful use of a motor vehicle; armed robbery; possession of shortened firearm; carry loaded firearm in public; possession of a weapon while under the influence of liquor or a drug and disqualified driving.
He’s also charged with possessing methamphetamine, ammunition, and a drug utensil.
Police allege in court documents Mr Sefton-Bennett robbed a man at gunpoint in Landsborough, stealing his Mercedes-Benz, while armed with the sawn-off rifle.

It’s also alleged he attempted to enter another person’s vehicle while asking “can you give me a lift?” but was refused.
“He then commenced walking away from the accident scene with no consideration for the welfare of Tan (the deceased),” police allege in court documents.
Mr Sefton-Bennett is due back in court on November 17.
