Five children inside allegedly stolen car injured after fiery crash

The children were allegedly driving along a motorway when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it burst into flames.

Five children were injured in an allegedly stolen vehicle after the car burst into flames during a crash on a Gold Coast motorway.

Queensland Police Service said the youths, aged between 12 and 14, were driving north on the M1 at Gaven at 1.20am on Tuesday when the vehicle clipped the back of a truck, lost control and smashed into a barrier.

All children were injured in the flaming wreck, while a boy, 12, and girl, 14, were rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital with serious injuries.

The 59-year-old man driving the truck was not injured in the crash.

Police are investigating the incident and allege the vehicle was stolen from Palm Beach on Monday afternoon.

Forensic crash investigators urge witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage from that area around the time, to contact police.
