Sydney motorists have been warned of ‘significant delays’ on Monday morning following a collision in the city’s east.

A collision involving a car and a bicycle in Double Bay led to the closure of two of the three westbound lanes on New South Head Rd at Bay Street just after 7am.

“Traffic is very heavy on New South Head Road and is queued back to Vaucluse,” Traffic NSW said in a statement.

Drivers were urged to allow “plenty of extra travel time” and to exercise caution.

At about 7.30am buses heading towards the city were being diverted but resumed using New South Head Rd just before 8am.

As of 8.30am emergency services and traffic crews were on site, while crash investigators were en route to the scene.

The site was cleared at about 10am, while the first lane of New South Head Rd remained closed.
