Seven people have been taken to hospital after a vehicle mounted a footpath in Sydney’s Inner West.

Seven people have been taken to hospital after a vehicle mounted a footpath in Sydney’s Inner West.

Emergency services were called to Burwood Road in Burwood at 12:25am on Sunday after hearing reports a car had crashed into a group of pedestrians.

Police allege that a Ford Ranger first crashed into a Toyota Camry which was accepting a ride share fare before mounting the footpath and hitting five pedestrians.

It then hit a parked Toyota Corolla that luckily had no one inside.

It was a “chaotic” scene as paramedics treated the five pedestrians and two occupants of the ride share vehicle according to NSW Ambulance Inspector Dominic Wong.

“We treated a total number of seven patients, with injuries ranging from head injuries (and) chest injuries,” he said to 7 News.

“Some patients were in serious conditions and others were walking, minor.”

The patients were taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, St George Hospital and Royal North Shore hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The 19-year-old driver was arrested at the scene and taken to Burwood Police Station, “where he is currently assisting with inquiries”.

Police have established a crime scene as specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit investigate.
