Traffic has banked up on a busy Queensland motorway with an unlikely culprit sparking havoc for morning commuters.

Traffic at Queensland border 'going to get worse'

Reports have emerged of a bizarre culprit running rouge on a major Queensland highway, triggering long traffic delays for early morning commuters.

The Courier Mail reports a dog is responsible for 40-minute delays on the Pacific Motorway at Greenslopes in Brisbane’s south around 7am on Tuesday morning.

The chaos-causing canine took to the motorway at 6.20am and has since been collected on Kessel Road footpath at Macgregor – a 15 minute drive from its first spotting.

Drivers took to social media at 7.10 to report the dog had made a comeback, with some drivers trying to chase after and catch the animal.

“Unfortunately we lost sight of it. A lot of people tried to catch it but it was too elusive,” one Twitter user said.

A three-vehicle crash at the same location at time of the dog’s escape was also reported.

Details surrounding the crash are yet to be released.

The left lane is currently affected for all motorists heading eastbound.

Chaos is unfolding across the south east following a second crash at Riverview on the Ipswich Motorway at 8.10am.

Paramedics are currently at the scene.

Commuters have been warned of heavy delays.

A third crash has taken place in East Brisbane, inbound from Stanley street at 7.50am.

Emergency services are at the scene.

The inbound right lane is heavily congested, commuters are urged to avoid the area.
More to come.
