Based on the stunning Polestar 02 Concept, the upcoming Polestar 6 production car will be powered by front and rear electric motors with up to 650kW and 900Nm of combined power.

Polestar says it will be able to reach 100km/h in about 3.2 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 250km/h.

Polestar chief executive Thomas Ingenlath said the decision to put the hard-topped convertible into production stemmed from positive reactions to the style of its concept car.

It’s not clear whether the concept’s semi-autonomous drone, a gadget designed to take aerial photos of the car in action, will also become a production reality.

The model will join electric performance cars from MG, Porsche, Lotus, Tesla and others in a new segment that promises to be both mean and green.

Planned to enter production in 2026, the roadster will cost about $US200,000 ($285,000), before local taxes that could push it over the $300,000 mark.

Australian customers can secure a reservation for the car with a $US25,000 ($35,700) deposit.
