Polestar roadster concept taps into social media
Style, sustainability and social media combine in a gorgeous convertible with an in-built camera and video editing suite.
This isn’t your grandfather’s Volvo.
The Swedish brand’s electric spin-off, Polestar, has hinted at its vision for a future electric sports car with a stunning convertible for the electric age.
Pitched as a thoughtful alternative to gas-guzzling Ferraris and Lamborghinis, the Polestar O2 concept is a battery-powered machine built largely from recycled material.
It looks great in photos, and promises to take video to a new level.
An autonomous drone stored in the back of the car can chase it along twisty roads, filming artistic footage of its owner in action.
Polestar says the car’s portrait-oriented touchscreen can be used to edit clips carefully so that the best video can be published on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok.
The car is only a concept for now. But it could pave the way for an electric alternative to the Porsche Boxster or Mazda MX-5.
Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar chief executive, said the Polestar O2 “is the hero car for our brand”.
“It opens the door to our secret chamber of future potential,” he said.
“This is a taste of what we can design and engineer with the talent and technology we have in-house.
“It looks incredible, and being able to lower the roof and not hear an engine promises a superb sensation.”
Maximilian Missoni, Polestar’s head of design said a silent convertible “unlocks a new mix of emotions in a car”.
“But as with all our cars, we are about more than just straight line sprints,” he said.
“It’s when you turn the steering wheel that the true fun begins.”
