A YouTuber has invented an “American solution” to the anti-mask movement in the US, where tens of thousands of people are contracting COVID-19 daily.

YouTuber invents “American solution” to fask mask problem

Even as the US continues to rack up tens of thousands of new coronavirus cases daily, Americans have been refusing to wear masks. But now one YouTuber has come up with an “American solution” to the problem.

Allen Pan runs the channel “Sufficiently Advanced” where he tries “to make pretend things into real things”.

His latest attempt? A pneumatic gun that can shoot a mask onto a person’s face to help prevent them spreading or contracting coronavirus.

The gun uses CO2 bulbs to create 800psi of pressure that propels a mask towards its soon-to-be wearer.

It’s highly reminiscent of Homer Simpson’s make-up gun, with a similar problem: Not many people are going to want to be shot in the face.

But the mask gun is neither interested in a person’s particular preferences, nor intended to actually be used.

Still, Mr Pan took it down to Huntington Beach in southern California to try it out in a region with some of the biggest anti-mask advocates around, documenting the gun’s construction and testing on YouTube.

“We’re going to go hunting for any Karen willing to get shot in the face for public health,” Mr Pan said.

“The concept is dope, don’t give up,” four women playing volleyball told Mr Pan after his gun broke on the first attempt.

After fixing the gun Mr Pan looked around to find a higher than expected amount of people wearing masks and decided to pivot to focus group testing instead.

“If you saw someone walking in like a Walmart and they weren’t wearing a mask, would you shoot them with this?” Mr Pan asks a group who tested the launcher underneath a pier.

“Yes,” a woman, who said it was her first time firing any sort of weapon, said of the gun.

“We’re allowed to use the Second Amendment to protect ourselves,” Mr Pan said, referencing America’s constitutional right to bear arms.

“I don’t think that’s what it was intended for, but I love interpretations,” the woman said.
