Aussie spa using inflatable pool and outboard motor a ‘recipe for disaster’
Our inventions have changed the world but the latest innovation Australia has cooked up might not catch on.
Australia has a rich history of ingenious inventions, but the Hills hoist, solar hot water and Wi-Fi apparently have nothing on our latest creation.
A group of larrikins have put an Aussie twist on the much loved spa bath, turning a boring old inflatable pool into a therapeutic treat with the simple addition of a regular outboard motor.

Presumably the group are now hard at work on a sauna that uses a barbecue as its heat source.
While the Aussie spa has an extremely “yeh, the boys” energy, for that same reason it’s probably not very safe.
The fast spinning rotors could cause serious injury if you get too close, as some sought to point out when footage of the spa was posted on the Facebook page Mad Monday.
“Recipe for disaster,” one person commented.
“How many toes were lost that afternoon?” another wondered.
But others were stoked on the idea, with many suggesting buying a boat for this very purpose and firing up the spa for New Year celebrations.

They’ll want to steer well clear of the propeller though.
“A strike from a propeller spinning at around 3200rpm can cause serious injury or even death,” NSW Roads and Maritime Services’ then acting executive director Mark Hutchings warned last year.
“Propeller-related injuries are preventable and the skipper should take precautions to ensure the safety of all on board.”
“Preventable” is a great word to describe any injury you might get from putting an outboard motor in an inflatable pool and we certainly don’t advise that you do.
