‘Jetman’ Vince Reffet, 36, killed in training accident in Dubai

The French daredevil who wowed audiences around the world with his stunts has died in a training accident in Dubai.

A French “Jetman” who wowed online audiences with videos of himself flying around the world’s tallest building and alongside the world’s largest commercial airliner has died in a training accident, aged 36.

Vince Reffet was a member of the Jetman team, which announced the news with “unimaginable sadness” following his death on Tuesday.

“Vince was a talented athlete and a much-loved and respected member of our team. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and all those who knew and worked with him.

“We are working closely with all relevant authorities and ask that you please keep Vince’s family in your thoughts and prayers,” the company said in a statement.

It was announced he died while training in the desert but further details are yet to emerge.

The four jet engines on a Jetman wing are much smaller than on the Airbus A380.

The Jetman crew fly with carbon fibre wings fitted with four tiny jet engines that can propel them at up to 400km/h.

In February, Mr Reffet was at the forefront of a huge advancement for the company, demonstrating the first flight from a standing start at the Expo 2020 Dubai.

Previous flights relied on the pilots already being in the air, often starting by leaping out of a helicopter or plane.

Mr Reffet also previously flew around the Burj Khalifa (having previously set a world record when he BASE jumped off the 828m building in 2014).

He also flew alongside an Airbus A380 with Jetman founder Yves Rossy.
