YET another videostreaming option will debut in Australia today with Yahoo launching what it calls the Seven Network’s “fourth channel” offering first-run TV programs for free online.

The new service, called Plus7 Exclusives, will become the first channel outside the US to deliver Sin City Saints starring Tom Arnold and Malin Ackerman, as well as Other Space from Bridesmaids director Paul Feig.

Yahoo 7 TV and global content head Cora Spear said entire seasons of the TV shows would be released online at once so audiences could “binge watch” the content.

Ms Spear said Plus7’s “repositioning ... as a fourth channel for Network Seven” was designed to attract young audiences who were used to streaming shows.

“We’ve got the wonderful bedrock of TV shows from Network Seven — Home and Away, My Kitchen Rules and My House Rules — but we are really looking to extend our audience and hopefully attract a slightly younger demographic,” she said.

“Part of the strategy is to really engage that millennial audience.”

Ms Spear said other Yahoo-produced TV shows could feature on Plus7 Exclusives in future, including a comedy called The Pursuit billed as a modern take on Friends, and a reality TV series called Ultimate DJ.

Yahoo7 was also “looking into some local exclusive content,” Ms Spear said.

The new Seven Network and Yahoo collaboration is one of many videostreaming services to debut in Australia this year, with locals embracing the new technology.

Roy Morgan estimated more than 400,000 Australians households signed up to Netflix in its first two months in the country, bringing in more than 1 million viewers.

Presto, from pay-TV company Foxtel, followed with 97,000 viewers, and Fairfax and Nine-backed Stan with 91,000 viewers.

Yahoo7’s new service may attract a different audience, however, with Ms Spear revealing TV-streaming to the Apple iPad remained the most popular way to access Plus7, with desktop and smart TV access behind it.
