CES 2025: Australia’s biggest ever TV to go on sale
Just when you thought TVs couldn't get any bigger, a tech giant has claimed it will soon sell the largest TV Australia has ever seen.
One of the biggest names in tech claims it will soon sell what they believe is the biggest TV for home use that Australians have ever seen.
China’s Hisense has revealed that a massive 116 inch LED TV will go on sale in the second half of this year.
It made the announcement at CES in Las Vegas, the world’s largest tech fair, which is taking place this week.
The TV could retail for more than $25,000.
Hisense’s move comes as Korean rival LG has announced that it will sell the world’s first transparent TV in Australia within the coming months.
The TriChroma LED TV, expanding Hisense’s ULED X range, is a single inch bigger than Australia’s previous largest TV – a 115 inch model from TCL.
“116 inches is an achievement, it’s massive,” Hisense’s Christopher Mayer told news.com.au in Las Vegas.
“But that’s actually the least important feature of it.”
Mr Mayer said the back end of the TV had been completely redesigned.
The TriChroma system uses a combination of red, blue and green mini LEDs which only turn on when that colour is needed. That’s in contrast to standard LED TVs where all colours are on all the time. Hisense claims that leads to extra brightness and colour accuracy and reduces energy consumption.
“It means that the energy usage is going to be lower because we’re only turning on the sections we need to.
“That’s really big because, yes, its 116 inches, but it actually costs less to run than have we made this based on the standard technology,” said Mr Mayer.
It also boats at 4K LCD antiglare display
The 115 inch model will replace Hisense’s previous biggest TV in the Australian market which came in at a still whopping 110 inch.
“There can be a difference between size and performance, but we’re doing both,” he said,
Hisense doesn’t have an exact date for the TV going on sale but it estimates it would be the third quarter of the year.
And while pricing still remains under wraps, Hisense’s 110 inch TV came in at $25,000 so expect it to be a touch above that.
Transparent TV coming to Australia
LG also had a big Aussie announcement up its sleeve at CES in Las Vegas.
It has confirmed that its fully transparent Signature OLED T will begin to be sold in Australia this year.
It comes in at 77 inches and has a sleek black metal frame.
When turned off, the screen goes fully see-through and can either fade into the background or cycle through images like a picture frame.
Turn it on, and you can choose to keep the transparency going while watching TV or a blind rises from the back of the set converts it into a traditional screen.
Last year, one reviewer said the LG TV “just blew my mind”.
As TVs get ever bigger, a transparent screen is pitched as being a solution to having a big black block on the wall when the TV is off.
“It’s the best looking 4K picture quality I’ve seen on a transparent TV,” LG Australia’s home entertainment marketing chief Tony Brown told news.com.au at CES.
The transparent technology is very new and it comes with a high price tag. LG has suggested it could retail for at least $80,000.
“The price isn’t finalised at the moment but it is really high, that’s the simple term for it. It’s like most technology,” said Mr Brown.
“We start off by making hundreds and when we start making thousands it becomes more efficient.”
