Apple reportedly looking at bundling its subscription services into single package

Falling iPhone sales have pushed the tech giant into subscription services as a revenue source, but some are more popular than others.

Slowing iPhone sales hit Apple profits

Apple may soon bundle its bushel of subscriptions.

The tech giant is thinking about combining its Apple TV+, Apple Music and News+ services into a single package, according to a report in Bloomberg.

The bundle of paid internet services could arrive as soon as 2020 and would be aimed at further growing its subscriber base as iPhone sales continue to slow, the report said, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter.

Apple News+ debuted in Australia in October with a $14.99 monthly rate and provides subscribers with access to a slew of magazines and news outlets. Apple TV+, meanwhile, launched earlier this month and features four original shows in its library for $7.99 a month.

Apple Music is by far Apple’s most popular subscription, with SVP of services Eddy Cue reporting in June it has 60 million paying subscribers shelling out $11.99 per month for access to 50 million songs.

There is no indication of what Apple might charge for the proposed bundle, but it is likely safe to assume that it will come at a discount. Disney offers a “Disney bundle” that gives subscribers access to Disney Plus, Hulu and ESPN Plus – an $US18 ($A27) value – for $US13 ($A19) per month, but that bundle doesn’t look to be coming to Australia when the streaming site launches next week.

The report notes any decision is not yet final, as Apple will need to be careful to not anger publishers who are already seeing less revenue from the News+ partnership than they had anticipated.

One publisher reportedly receives less than $30,000 per month, which falls short of what it received from its partnership with News+ predecessor Texture.
