Furious fans are reporting a game they’ve waited eight years to play is struggling to work on hardware they’ve had for less time.

The long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077 is finally out, but despite being announced before the last generation consoles even hit shelves, it reportedly runs like “garbage” on PS4 and Xbox One.

The developers have faced several challenges in the game which has been delayed a number of times since it was originally slated to come out in April this year.

Now that it’s finally out, gamers who have been waiting eight years to play it are not impressed.

The game runs markedly better on a PC, and the seven-year-old consoles might struggle with its ambitious scope.

A version of the game for next-gen PS5 and Xbox Series S/X consoles isn’t due out until next year.

Some had previously expressed disappointment that early reviewers of the game (including news.com.au) were given PC codes: The suggestion being the developers intentionally tried to conceal how poorly the game ran on older consoles.

People have been sharing videos of the glitches and hiccups they’ve been running into with many expressing their disappointment.

Some others defended the game and said people shouldn’t expect it to run perfectly on what is essentially outdated technology.
