Witcher update adds Henry Cavill’s dog

The Netflix Witcher star’s dog Kal has been added in The Witcher 3’s next-gen update for PC and PS5 and Xbox Series consoles

Parents’ lawsuit against 'addictive' Fortnite approved by court

Henry Cavill has had his canine companion immortalised in the next generation update to The Witcher 3, after it was revealed that he would no longer be playing the lead role in future seasons of Netflix’s Witcher adaptation.

As reported by Eurogamer, Cavill’s dog Kal – named after Superman’s Kryptonian birth name, Kal-El – will appear at the Devil’s Pit for any player that gets the “good” ending in the new In The Eternal Fire’s Shadow quest, which was added to the game in the new update.

Henry Cavill was recently revealed to be leaving the lead role of Geralt in Netflix’s The Witcher adaptation. Many assumed at the time that he was leaving the role so he could resume his place as Superman in DC’s film universe, but Cavill revealed this week that he wouldn’t be stepping back into that role either, despite previous announcements that he would be.

Philip Weber, the lead quest designer at The Witcher developer CD Projekt, confirmed that Kal the dog in the new update was indeed based on Cavill’s own pup.

“With the sad news about Henry Cavill’s Superman role today,” Weber said on Twitter, “it’s nice that we got a little opportunity to show our appreciation for the great passion and enthusiasm Henry showed for The Witcher”.

Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt showed off the game’s next-gen update before it launched, showing off a host of visual and performance improvements. The update also comes with a quest inspired by the Netflix adaptation of the series.

But some fans have complained about performance issues on PC after the update. Some PC players have complained about low frame rates, sudden drops in the frame rate, as well as missing or glitched textures. PS5 and Xbox Series players don’t seem to be suffering from the same issues.

CD Projekt said in a tweet from the official Witcher Twitter account that it’s “aware of the issues PC players have been reporting” and that it will be investigating the issues and providing an update “as soon as possible”.

The Witcher was also announced to be coming to Fortnite recently, as the game enters its fourth chapter of content. Geralt, the lead of the Witcher series, will be available as a costume for players at some point during the game’s current season, though exact timing is not yet known.
