The Witcher is coming to Fortnite
The battle royale game is getting new content from Doom, The Witcher, and more, as it enters its fourth chapter and reworks its whole map
Fortnite has launched its fourth chapter, and has brought with it some huge changes, alongside some surprising crossovers.
Fortnite Chapter 4 is a total overhaul of the game, with new weapons, new mechanics, a whole new map, and new ways to play the game. Epic Games has detailed the changes and additions in a very lengthy blog post, but even the highlights are interesting.
Fortnite is an ever-evolving free-to-play battle royale game where a hundred players are dropped into a map and fight to be the last person standing. In recent years, the game has been separated into chapters, which usually span about a year, and within each chapter are multiple seasons, which last a couple months.
Each season usually brings some minor changes to the map and gameplay, often themed around a specific topic or set of characters, as seen in previous Avengers-themed seasons. Chapters, on the other hand, are more of a hard reset for the game, making big, sweeping changes such as a new or reworked map, and changes to the core gameplay.
The biggest change in Chapter 4 is a whole new map for players to explore, fight, and survive in. The entire map has been completely overhauled, with new locations including a fancy-looking castle called The Citadel, a snowy mountaintop fortress called Brutal Bastion, and vast farmlands called Frenzy Fields.
From a gameplay perspective, it seems like there’s a lot more going on here, too. Players can now hurdle over or onto objects in the world, and there’s a new system called “Reality Augments”, which randomly grants skills and buffs to players as the match goes on.
The biggest draws for most players, of course, are the new skins and crossovers in this new chapter and the game’s developer, Epic Games, has delivered in that regard. The first season of Chapter 4 will see players unlock seven different skins through its premium battle pass, including Doom Slayer, the playable character from the DOOM series. Later in the season, players will also be able to unlock Geralt of Rivia, the lead character from The Witcher series.
Epic Games hasn’t mentioned how players will be able to get their hands on the Witcher star, but previous crossovers could see it go one of two ways. The first is that the Geralt skin is unlocked through competing specific challenges, and the second is that it could simply be available in the in-game shop for V-Bucks.

The Witcher was recently revealed to be getting an open-world remake, a departure from the original game’s much more linear approach to game design. It’s being developed primarily by Polish Studio Fool’s Theory, with some original developers helping out.
The Witcher developer CD Projekt also showed off The Witcher 3’s next-gen update, which will greatly improve the game’s graphics for the PS5, Xbox Series S and X, and PC. It will also come with new content inspired by the Witcher Netflix adaptation, such as new equipment and quests.
