Sleep-tracking Pokemon app coming this year

The Pokemon Company has revived its Pokemon Sleep app, which is said to help people of all ages get more sleep with the help of Pokemon.

The Pokemon Company has finally lifted the lid on its upcoming sleep-tracking app, Pokemon Sleep, after years of silence.

During its Pokemon Presents presentation this morning, the company revealed that Pokemon Sleep is nearing completion, with the app set to be released towards the middle of this year.

The app was first revealed in 2019, but news on the Pokemon-branded health aid has been sparse ever since the reveal. The presentation today showed off a host of new features for the app, giving a good overview of how it works.

Pokemon Sleep will use either your phone or a specialised device called the Pokemon Go Plus+ to track your sleep, and it will then produce data and give suggestions based on how you slept. The whole experience is dressed up in a Pokemon package, and sleeping can earn players different Pokemon to ‘catch’.

The Pokemon Go Plus+ is an enhanced version of the Pokemon Go Plus that was released shortly after the launch of Pokemon Go. The device not only tracks your sleep, it can also be used as a GO Plus device, allowing players to catch Pokemon in Pokemon Go without having to have their phones out.

The device is also said to “have a Pikachu inside it”, which will make cute noises and act as an alarm for players who want to wake up to the sounds of the familiar electric mouse mascot.

Pokemon Sleep also has the option to play relaxing sounds while you sleep, and will give detailed breakdowns of how long it took you to fall asleep, how well you slept, and for how long. Much like other sleep tracking apps like Apple’s Health, Samsung Health, and Google Fit, it will provide a sleep graph that gives you a good idea of how good your sleep was.

The presentation was also filled with other announcements, such as a new classic take on the Pokemon Trading Card Game, an animated Netflix series, and new details for games like Pokemon Go, Pokemon Masters, and Pokemon Unite.

The big news, however, was the announcement of new DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The DLC will come in two waves throughout the year, each focusing on a different aspect of the Pokemon experience.
