How and when to watch the 2022 Game Awards

The Game Awards is gaming’s biggest awards show, filled with awards, big announcements, and slick new trailers.

The Game Awards 2022 nominees revealed

The Game Awards is an annual event, showcasing some of the biggest and brightest talent in the games industry, but it’s also got heaps of announcements and trailers for new games and updates.

In recent years, the show has taken place virtually, with no audience in the room and acceptance speeches taking place largely over video call or through prerecorded messages. 2022 returns to the pre-pandemic format, and it looks like it should be a good one.

Thankfully, you don’t have to be in the room where it happens to see it all go down, with The Game Awards being broadcast online for anyone who wants to tune in.

Here’s everything you need to know:

When are The Game Awards?

The Game Awards will take place from 11:30am AEDT on Friday the 9th of December, and should run for about three hours.

Host Geoff Keighley has said that The Game Awards will be a little bit shorter this year compared to previous years, which have pushed close to four hours, but there’s always a chance things will run over.

Here are the times for all Australian time zones:

AEDT - Victoria, New South Wales, ACT, and Tasmania: 11:30am

AEST - Queensland: 10:30am

ACDT - South Australia: 11:00am

ACST - Northern Territory: 10:00am

AWST - Western Australia: 8:30am

How can I watch?

The Game Awards will be streamed live on Twitch and YouTube, on the official The Game Awards accounts. We’ve embedded the YouTube stream below, or you can click here to watch it on Twitch.

What can we expect to see?

As with previous years, we can expect there to be a lot of fantastic new trailers for currently unannounced games and upcoming content for existing games. Hideo Kojima is expected to announce a new project of some kind, as he’s been teasing it for close to a year now, including at PAX Australia.

We know that Tekken 8 will be making an appearance at some point during the show, as well as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The official Crash Bandicoot Twitter account seems to have hinted at something too, but it’s impossible to say for sure what that will be.

We can probably safely expect to hear about some upcoming games, such as Bethesda’s Starfield and Redfall, and previous years have shown us glimpses at games from Nintendo, but they’ve been largely absent from the last couple of shows. That said, with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom right around the corner, now could be a good time to start showing it off to a bigger audience.

We’ll be sure to bring you the biggest news, and the winners as the event unfolds.
