Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida has dropped the biggest hint yet that the game might be headed to PC after a six month exclusivity period on the PS5, after months of speculation and further hints.

The hint came during a Final Fantasy 14 live stream, a game for which Yoshida, known to fans as Yoshi-P, is also the producer. During the stream, Yoshida mentioned that some fans had been mentioning a PC release of the game. His response, as translated by Twitter user Genki, raised some eyebrows among fans.

“Nobody said a word about a PC version releasing,” Yoshida said during the stream, “Why is it like a PC version is releasing 6 months later? Don’t worry about that, buy a PS5! Sorry, I went overboard, we did our best so please look forward to it”.

Square Enix, the game’s publisher, has yet to officially confirm a release outside of the PS5 release due to launch later this year, but it has seemingly suggested that it would eventually come to other platforms.

When the game was first announced during a PS5 Showcase event, the reveal trailer mentioned the game would be coming to both PS5 and PC. A reupload of the trailer removed mention of PC as a potential platform of the game, with Square Enix telling Gamesradar at the time that it had “no further information on if Final Fantasy XVI will be released on platforms other than the PS5”.

A later trailer for Final Fantasy 16 mentioned that the game would be exclusive to the PS5 for six months, while other trailers say it will remain exclusive to Sony’s console until at least December 31, 2023. Some trailers and other marketing materials have used the term ‘console exclusive’ as well, which suggests the game probably won’t be heading to Xbox anytime soon, but will likely come to PC.

Microsoft has claimed that the PS5 exclusive won’t come to Xbox in its response to a FTC lawsuit aimed at stopping its $100 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Microsoft said that Sony entered into arrangements with publishers that “require the exclusion of Xbox”.

There’s also said to be more big Final Fantasy news coming in 2023, according to the producer of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Yoshinori Kitase said that there’ll be “another big announcement” coming in 2023, but said it wouldn’t be related to Final Fantasy 7.
