Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2, Rebirth, is coming next winter

The Remake trilogy is confirmed, alongside announcements of Crisis Core: Reunion this Winter and Rebirth a year later.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2, Rebirth, Is Coming Next Winter

Three massive games were announced yesterday, rather than simply the two we predicted. As part of the Final Fantasy 7 anniversary stream, as well as Crisis Core: Reunion coming this winter, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2, officially subtitled Rebirth, was announced. The trailer is sparse and information is light, but it’s out there in the world now.

It was also confirmed that there will be a third Final Fantasy 7 Remake game to round off a trilogy. The name of that title is yet to be announced – my personal bet is on Restart, so I’ll be linking to this post in 3+ years to get my kudos.

Square Enix also gave a release time frame of “Next Winter” which certainly is up for interpretation but gives a window of December 2023 – March 2024. FF7 Remake had a similar window and ended up releasing on April 10, 2020. Crisis Core: Reunion, a remaster (at least, based on the texture quality and voice acting) of the original, is due “This Winter” so likely sometime early next year.

The trailer is naturally sparse. It shows some amount of the Kalm flashback from the original FF7, where Cloud recounts his experiences with Sephiroth in Nibelheim. It’s an incredibly key scene in the original game, and happens almost immediately after the events at the end of FF7 Remake (other than the space-and-time omni-battle against versions of the party from the future, that… that was new). Sephiroth ‘in the party’ is a hell of a shot, naturally.

There are also hints at some of the wider plot of the actual Remake, with Aerith discussing the past and future they’ve probably changed, shots of Zack likely being alive, as well as Tifa discussing her death during the Nibelheim flashback – stuff that doesn’t usually come up in the plot until much later.

Between this, FF16, mobile games, Kingdom Hearts 4, etc, it’s looking like a powerful couple of years for Square Enix. Hopefully the games live up to it.

FF7 Remake Intergrade is available on consoles and PC now, including a Steam release as of a couple of hours ago.
