Sources and leaks combine to say Dragon’s Dogma 2 and a Crisis Core remake are being announced during livestreams today.

As the not-E3 Summer Game Fest winds to an end, there are two announcement shows happening at the exact same time today. Both Square Enix and Capcom are running game-specific streams today, for Final Fantasy 7 and Dragon’s Dogma respectively. Both are likely to contain new game announcements, per leaks and our own sources.

For Square Enix, the FF7 25th Anniversary Celebration Broadcast will go live on YouTube at 08:00 AEST. Via new and 100% correct-so-far leaker The Snitch, rather than the expected announcement and reveal of FF7 Remake Part 2, a remaster or remake of Crisis Core is expected.

Crisis Core is a PSP game originally released in 2007 and is one of the few expanded FF7 universe items to be worth its weight in silicon. It tells the story of Zack Fair, a key background character in FF7, and explains in more detail the past of him, Cloud Strife, and antagonist Sephiroth. It has never been released on other platforms.

The rumours of a remake or remaster match up with what we’ve heard, with it coming to all consoles and PC. Exactly what grade of release we’re talking about – from basic up-rez to a ground-up remake – isn’t known. Given the projects already in the works, I’d expect closer to the former, but likely with improved mechanics and UI/X given its origin on a handheld and now 15-year-old design principles.

The stream, which isn’t expected to last more than 10 minutes, will also feature news on a number of the FF7 tie-in mobile games and other items. FF7 Remake Part 2 will be revealed later in the year as part of the Final Fantasy 35th anniversary, we’re told by those close to the situation.

On the other side of things, Dragon’s Dogma is hosting an event at exactly the same time, expected to last 12 minutes. It’s their 10th anniversary, and we’re equally informed that Dragon’s Dogma 2, the long-awaited and much-desired sequel to Capcom’s ARPG, will be revealed. Details on this are far more scarce, with just that title being what we have.

Of course, nothing is guaranteed as plans change and marketing shifts. It would be very like these two companies to announce special events, have them run at exactly the same time, and have it be 10-12 minutes of information all their dedicated fans already have. At least we’ll know in a few hours.
