The man behind popular YouTube channel Technoblade has farewelled his fans in one tragic final video, uploaded by his family following his death.

The 23-year-old’s passing was revealed by his dad in a video titled “so long nerds” on Friday. His channel has 10.7 million subscribers.

For the first time, fans learnt the Minecraft player’s real name was Alex.

He was last year diagnosed with stage four cancer and had been undergoing intensive treatment for the past 12 months, but took his final breath on June 30.

It was just eight hours after he typed out a final message to fans on a laptop, which he asked his dad to read.

“Hello everyone, Technoblade here. If you’re watching this, I am dead. So let’s sit down and have one final chat. My real name is Alex.

“I had one of my siblings call me Dave one time in a deleted video from 2016. It was one of the most successful pranks we’ve ever done. [There were] thousands of creepy online dudes trying to get overly personal going, ‘oh hey Dave, how’s it going?’

“Sorry for selling out so much in the past year but thanks to everyone that bought hoodies, plushies and channel memberships. My siblings are going to college! Well, if they want to. I don’t want to put any dead brother peer pressure on them.

“But that’s all from me. Thank you all for supporting my content over the years. If I had another 100 lives, I think I would choose to be Technoblade again every single time, as those were the happiest years of my life.

“I hope you guys enjoyed my content and I made some of you laugh, and I hope you all go on to live long, prosperous and happy lives, because I love you guys. Technoblade out.”

His dad, while nursing the family’s small white dog, told viewers they had for months had been discussing doing a “face reveal” but had ultimately left it too late.

Plans to shoot a video from Alex’s hospital bed didn’t come off as he was having difficulty focusing, his dad said.

“Eventually he said he was going to write it and he asked me to read it,” he revealed, but added even that was becoming too difficult of a task for Alex’s deteriorating condition.

“At some point I just got down on my knee at his bedside, and I said to him, ‘Alex, you don’t have to do anything else, you’ve done so much for so many people, millions of people. And if you want to now, you can rest. But if you want to write one last video and you’re waiting for things to get a little better, then I would say don’t wait. I don’t think things are going to get any better anymore’,” he recalled.

Alex’s dad said his son seemed to have been encouraged by what he said, and soon after set about writing the message.

Through tears, the heartbroken dad revealed his son passed away only a few hours later.

“He finished that up and then he was done. He lived about another eight hours after that. We all said goodbye,” he said.

“He was the most amazing kid anyone could ever ask for. Thank you to all of you for everything, you meant a lot to him.”

A typed message written by Alex’s mum then displayed on the screen, which highlighted how passionate he had been about making his fans happy.

“We, the family of Technoblade, wanted all of you to know just how much he adored and respected his fans and colleagues.

“From Technoblade’s earliest online days, he was always strategising ways to delight and reward his audience,” the statement continued. “Even after his eventual successes he somehow managed to keep his good-natured humility, competing with an endearing balance between his confidence and self-deprecating with. He avoided personal fame and worked hard to keep his true identity confidential, and we ask you to honour his wishes to protect his privacy and the privacy of his family.

“This past year has had a lot of rough spots for our son as he battled stage 4 cancer. But he didn’t complain, and kept using his famous strategic mind to try to beat what he knew were almost impossible odds. MY son’s bravery on this path was a shining lesson to all of us who were privileged to walk it with him. Thank you for sharing his journey through it all, as he did the work he loved for his beloved fans.”
