XIII had such a terrible remake the first time around it’s getting another one just a couple of years later.

The Best FPS Games Coming in 2022

XII, a 2003 first-person shooter, was remade in 2020 and it was one of the most poorly received games of the year.

Fans, critics, and commentators alike hated the bug-filled remake that made some unpopular changes to the iconic art-style of the original. Now the publisher has passed all the remake’s code to a new developer to recreate it in a better fashion.

The remake will focus on art direction, AI, and technical improvements.

As reported by VGC, publisher Microids announced on their website that development has moved from Maltese studio PlayMagic to the French Tower Five.

After release, PlayMagic was embroiled in controversy after various staff members came forward about a toxic work culture in a report on Fanbyte.

Tower Five, who previously worked on small action-strategy title Lornsword Winter Chronicle, have been focusing on a “rework of the entire game” for a year. They specifically call out art direction, AI, and technical improvements as having received major focus.

All these improvements will be rolled into an update for the PC and console versions, as well as the initial release of the Switch version, all due this year on September 13.

“We are fully aware and terribly sorry that the initial launch of XIII Remake on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC did not reach players’ expected quality standards” said Microids CEO Stéphane Longeard.

“We can’t wait for players to put their hands on this improved version of the game and (re)discover the classic adventures of Agent XIII.”
