Everything in the February PlayStation presentation

PlayStation held its first games showcase of the year, showing off a dozen games and 15 minutes of gameplay for the upcoming Suicide Squad.

Sony has held its first PlayStation State of Play presentation of the year, with a 45-minute livestream showing off over a dozen games for PS5, PS4, and PSVR2.

It also featured 15 minutes of gameplay for the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The show as a whole was a rather understated affair, but still had quite a few things worth keeping an eye on going forward.

It comes after Nintendo held its presentation earlier this month, which was filled with highlights like new gameplay for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and a release date trailer for Pikmin 4. Xbox also held a presentation last month, with a surprise game release headlining the show.

Here’s everything that was shown off during the show.

The Foglands

The showcase started with a look at a new cowboy-themed first-person shooter for PlayStation VR2. In The Foglands, you’ll play as a cowboy who has to hone their skills and learn to survive in the wastelands.

The trailer was quite brief, but it was a good look at how the PS VR2 library will grow in the coming months and years. No release date was set for the game, but it’s said to be releasing sometime in 2023.

Green Hell VR

Already released on a number of other platforms, Green Hell is now headed to the PS VR2. It’s a survival horror game set on an island, and players will have to use their wits to survive.

Players will be gathering resources, crafting items, and trying to escape the looming threat on the island. Like The Foglands, there’s no set release date beyond just 2023.

Synapse

One of the more interesting games to feature in the PS VR2 showcase, Synapse is a first-person shooter with supernatural themes. It’s a very fast-paced game, with a limited colour scheme very reminiscent of Superhot.

The enemies in Synapse are all connected by ropes, and seem to be not quite human. It will also be released sometime in 2023.

Journey to Foundation

Another game from the PS VR2 showcase, Journey to Foundation is a sci-fi game where players explore a spaceship. The ship’s crew is on a mission to save humanity from a great threat, and they’re searching for the answer to Earth’s plight.

This trailer was on the shorter side, but it was interesting nonetheless, and adds yet another first-person shooter to the VR2 library. It’s set to be released sometime in the Spring.

Before Your Eyes

A much more abstract game, Before Your Eyes has players watching and interacting with past memories. It uses the PS VR2’s eye tracking in a really interesting way, with time moving forward each time you blink.

The game has been critically acclaimed after launching on other platforms in the past, and won a number of awards for the concept. It’ll launch on PS VR2 on March 10, 2023.

Street Fighter 6

Three characters had new gameplay revealed for the latest entry in the Street Fighter series. Fan favourite character Zangeif is making a comeback, with a bunch of hard hitting moves, while another fan favourite, Cammy, is back with a new, shorter haircut and an amazing set of moves.

A new character called Lily was shown off too, with a goofy vibe and the ability to call on spirits to help fight in combat. Street Fighter 6 will release on PS4 and PS5 on June 2, 2023.

Destiny 2: Lightfall

The upcoming expansion for Destiny 2 got its own trailer in the presentation, showing off a bunch more of the expansion. The previous expansion, The Witch Queen, added a huge amount to the base game, and Lightfall is supposed to be much bigger.

We also saw a fresh look at the expansion’s new gameplay elements, as well as a sneak peak at the new storyline. Destiny 2: Lightfall is coming very soon, launching on PS4 and PS5 (along with every other major platform) on February 28, 2023.

Tchia

Tchia has players taking on the role of a young girl who’s built a homemade raft to explore the islands around her home. You’ll be able to play on both the boat and on the islands, as Tchia slowly learns more about herself.

An interesting thing to note here is that it’s one of very few games coming to the PlayStation Plus Catalogue on day one. Tchia is set to launch next month, on March 23, 2023 on both the PS4 and PS5.

Humanity

Players who’ve tried out IQ: Intelligence Qube will find a lot familiar about Humanity. A 3D platformer of sorts, you’ll lead a pack of humans through a set of challenges.

Playing as the dog from IQ, Humanity will have pre-made levels where players will have to find the right path forward to save humanity. It’ll be launching on both the PS4 and PS5, as well as PS VR and VR2 in May 2023.

Goodbye Volcano High

Goodbye Volcano High has been highly anticipated for quite some time, and it’s finally coming to PlayStation in just a few months. You’ll play as a dinosaur dealing with the emotional trials of high school, alongside all your dinosaur friends.

It plays like a visual novel with rhythm game elements, and the story will guide players through the game as they play. Goodbye Volcano High launches on PS4 and PS5 on June 15, 2023.

Naruto/Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections

This is a collection of the popular Naruto Ultimate Ninja games, bringing the entire series into one convenient package. It features every game in the series, from the first game covering the early parts of the Naruto story all the way up to the fourth game, covering the sequel series Boruto.

Fans were hoping to see a fifth game in the series, but they’ll likely still be pleased with this collection, which also adds new features and characters. There’s no set release date, but it’s due to launch on PS4 and PS5 in 2023.

Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 has been available on PC in early access since 2020, but when it finally gets its full release you’ll be able to play it on PlayStation too. Here, you’ll get to customise a character and journey through the world of Dungeons and Dragons.

Fans have been waiting a long time for this RPG, and finally it’s got a release date. Baldur’s Gate 3 will be launching on PS5 on August 31, 2023.

Wayfinder

First shown off at The Game Awards last year, Wayfinder has now been revealed to be getting a beta that’s PlayStation exclusive. It’s from the creators of Warframe, an extremely popular free-to-play online multiplayer game.

Wayfinder features interesting new dungeons, and the beta will include a few of those as well as the main hub world. Players who are interested can sign up for the beta now, and can play it on both PS4 and PS5 on February 28, 2023.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

The highly anticipated remake of the best game in the Resident Evil series got a new trailer during the presentation, including an update on the multiplayer Mercenaries mode. Protagonist Leon is looking better than ever before, and the reinvented third-person combat is looking to be shaping up well.

One of the more exciting announcements of the show was that Resident Evil 4’s remake will be getting a demo, which will be available very soon. The game is set to launch on March 24, 2023 for PS4 and PS5.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

The bulk of the show, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League got an extended look at its gameplay, something that’s been pretty light before now. You’ll be able to play as Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, or King Shark, with more characters set to be added down the line.

The rumoured Battle Pass is real, but Rocksteady says that it would only be used to unlock cosmetic items. The game is set to launch on PS5 on May 26, 2023.
