Warner Bros leaks new Mortal Kombat game
A new game in the series has been heavily rumoured for quite some time, and an executive at Warner Bros. Games revealed one was in the works.
An earnings call for Warner Bros. has led to a surprising revelation after an executive seemingly revealed an unannounced Mortal Kombat game.
The executive in question explicitly mentioned Mortal Kombat 12 during the call, revealing that it was due to launch sometime in 2023. The last game in the series, Mortal Kombat 11, was released in 2019.
A Mortal Kombat game is also in the works for smartphones, called Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, but most have been focused on the reveal of the new main series game. Series director Ed Boon poked fun at the reveal on Twitter, asking “So who has heard the news about Injustice 3?”, referring to a similar fighting game from the studio focused on DC Comics characters.
Fans of the series have been waiting for news about Injustice 3 for quite some time too, and many fans speculated whether a new Mortal Kombat or a new Injustice would be announced first.
So who has heard the news about INJUSTICE 3 ?

Fighting game fans have been waiting for news about a new Mortal Kombat game for years, and it’s looking like the next couple of years are shaping up well for them. Street Fighter 6 is set to launch on June 6, 2023, coming seven years after the last entry in the series.
Tekken 8, from Bandai Namco, is set to complete the trio of traditional fighting games when it’s released in 2024. The three are all long-running series, but they face fierce competition from newer fighting games, such as the Guilty Gear series, and stand-alone games like Dragon Ball FighterZ.
Mortal Kombat 12 wasn’t the only interesting item discussed during the call. Warner Bros. said it’s closely collaborating with Embracer Group and New Line Cinema to create several new Lord of the Rings films.
The game company purchased the Lord of the Rings IP in August last year for an undisclosed amount. The company also acquired a huge amount of game studios at the time, including Tripwire Studios, Tuxedo Labs, and Limited Run Games.
Embracer also shut down one of its recently bought studios shortly after the acquisition from Square Enix. Square Enix Montreal was renamed to Studio Onoma following the acquisition, but just three weeks after the renaming it was announced to be shutting down to cut costs.
