“Categorically untrue” Bayonetta voice actor claims

New anonymous reports dispute Hellena Taylor’s claims that she was offered rock bottom pay to voice Bayonetta.

New reports have complicated the pay dispute issued by the Bayonetta voice actor Hellena Taylor, who claims she was offered $4,000 USD total to voice the entirety of Bayonetta 3.

In a report issued by Bloomberg, an anonymous source that claims to be “familiar with” the contract negotiations alleged that the developer attempted to hire Taylor for “at least five” four-hour sessions, with each session paying approximately $3,000 to $4,000 USD ($4,700 to $6,300 AUD). The anonymous source also claims that Hellena sought a six-figure sum and residuals.

Taylor, responding via messages sent to Video Game Chronicle, stated that the anonymous claims were “categorically untrue” and “an absolute lie, and a complete joke.” Continuing, she said “I’d quite like to put this in the [rearview] mirror and leave the whole bloody franchise behind,” she told VGC. “So I think I’ll just let my videos stand. I spoke the truth.”

The videos, of course, are the multi-part video messages uploaded via Twitter that accused Platinum Games of offering categorically low pay for a returning lead role. Since those videos went up over the past weekend, a surge of support from fans of the series has been sent her way — alongside a stream of angry comments towards the allegedly offending parties.

Hideki Kamiya, vice-president of Platinum Games, deleted and then remade his Twitter account to attempt to shake off the flood of comments, while Jennifer Hale, the new voice of Bayonetta, had to issue a public statement declaring that she was under an NDA and could not comment on the matter.

“Anyone who knows me, or has followed my career, will know that I have great respect for my peers, and that I am an advocate for all members of the community,” she commented via Twitter. “I am under NDA and am not at liberty to speak regarding this situation. My reputation speaks for itself.”
