Expensive straps for wireless Apple product mocked online

Apple AirPod straps being sold for $92 that essentially turn the “cordless” devices into headphones have been mocked online.

Exasperated shoppers have taken to social media to vent about pricey “straps” being sold for wireless Apple AirPods, saying the product cycle has “come full circle”.

Wireless AirPods have largely replaced Apple’s headphones, which had a cord. But AirPod users are prone to losing the pods, which are small and cost hundreds of dollars to replace.

US retailer Nordstrom is now selling magnetised straps in braided leather to hold onto the AirPods, saying the straps can help people who are prone to losing the tiny ear buds. The Nordstrom strap retails for $92.92 or $US60.

“Avoid losing your wireless AirPods by attaching them to this magnetic-locking leather strap and wearing around the neck when not in use,” the Nordstrom listing reads.

Several similar magnetised straps are also available on Amazon and eBay for a range of prices.

The straps elicited several responses online, with social media users making jokes about the item. Many said it turned the wireless pods back into “headphones”.

Regular Apple AirPods with a charging case range in price from $249 to $319, while a set of Apple AirPods Pro will set you back $399.
