Samsung Unpacked: All the new tech predicted at Galaxy event

The Korean electronics giant is hours away from revealing a suite of new devices — but many stars of the show have already leaked ahead of time.

Samsung Unpacked: Galaxy S20 flagship and Z Flip foldable unveiled

Samsung is hours away from officially announcing the devices it already all but showed in a trailer teasing the event last week.

The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event will be livestreamed from the company’s home country South Korea on Thursday morning, and it looks like the electronics giant will be releasing the new Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Fold 2, Galaxy Watch 3, Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Tab S7.

The silhouettes appear to show a new tablet, earbuds, watch, and two phones.

Early speculation had predicted a 5G version of the Galaxy Z Flip, but the company ended up announcing that device with little fanfare last week.

Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event will stream live from 12am (AEST) on August 6.

The teaser video released last week ends with a brief silhouette of the devices you can expect to see announced.

The Galaxy Note 20 is expected to come in two different versions – a base model and an “Ultra” tier that Samsung also slapped on the Galaxy S20 devices it started selling in March.

It appears the updated Note will retain the huge size and productivity features of previous Note devices, though a leak has suggested fans will have to get used to pulling the S Pen stylus out from the other side of the phone.

Samsung is currently leading the race on foldable devices and will look to shore up that lead with the Galaxy Fold 2, while hopefully avoiding the embarrassing and widely documented issues that faced the company’s first attempt at a flexible smartphone.

The phone needed redesigning deep into the production cycle and phones that appeared suspiciously similar to the original Fold were later advertised as the Escobar Fold.

Like the rest of the devices Samsung is expected to announce, the Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+ have both leaked online ahead of time and right on schedule.

The two tablets will seek to compete with the iPad Pro and Microsoft’s Surface devices as a replacement to the traditional laptop.

Wearable tech is still yet to go fully into the mainstream but is still gaining in popularity, particularly in the area of wireless headphones.

New Galaxy Buds also look to be part of the showcase and details have already been leaked about them too, through Samsung’s apps on iOS and Android as well as in renders published by WinFuture.

A new Galaxy Watch also looks set for Unpacked.
