Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra leak reveals phone will record 8K video

New details have leaked about Samsung’s next device and its dedicated fans will notice one change.

Samsung Unpacked: Galaxy S20 flagship and Z Flip foldable unveiled

More details about Samsung’s upcoming devices have leaked ahead of its Unpacked event next month, with video of the company’s next Galaxy Note 20 being posted online, including a change that could annoy fans.

The Korean electronics giant is expected to officially reveal the Note 20, as well as a new Galaxy Fold, a 5G version of the Z Flip, a smartwatch and new wireless earbuds to compete with Apple’s Airpods at the August 6 event, which will be lifestreamed from South Korea beginning at 12am (AEST).

But the phone’s most iconic feature — the included S Pen that slots into the phone — looks set to be switched to the other side of the phone.

Included styli are a feature many smartphone users claim to want on their device, but which most brands don’t offer.

The change is featured in a new leak that purports to show advanced camera features on the next version of the Note, echoing the focus of the S20 range Samsung released in March.

The video, posted by YouTuber Jimmy is Promo, shows what is apparently a hands-on with the new device.

Some of the new camera features include 5x optical zoom and improved audio recording in videos with a new on-screen histogram to monitor levels.

The zoom is expected to go up to 50x digitally, which is a walk back from the insane 100x zoom on the Samsung S20 Ultra.

T he images the 100x zoom mode on that phone produce are not all that crash hotso it’s possible Samung decided to take a step back and hope to improve the technology in the future.

The new Note will record 8K footage. Two variants of the Note are expected, but not even the more highly specced Ultra will have an 8K screen (its expected to be closer to 4K).

It will also go up to 120Hz refresh rate (which helps smooth motion, particularly useful for gaming) but the base model Note is expected to have a lower resolution display only going up to 60Hz.

While it might be a slight disappointment it’s unlikely to be a deal-breaker for fans of the phone, who don’t really buy it for gaming.

The Note devices are generally considered more conservative than the company’s flagship Galaxy S range, even if it did more or less kickstart the trend of super big screens when it debuted with a now relatively small 5.3-inch display in 2011.

At the time, the iPhone had a 3.5-inch display.

Apple’s next line of phones is expected to start with a 5.4-inch display and go up from there.

The Note phones are targeted at business customers for work rather than streaming content or for social media.
