Kate Middleton forced to witness player’s gross Wimbledon act
Kate Middleton made a stylish return to Wimbledon after two years but was confronted with a disturbing sight from the Royal Box.
Kate Middleton made a stylish return to Wimbledon but sadly didn’t get to enjoy the result she was after.
The Duchess of Cambridge is a patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and makes an appearance at the prestigious grand slam every year. However, because Covid-19 cancelled the event in 2020, she was back on the picturesque grounds of SW19 for the first time since 2019.
In an post uploaded to the official Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Instagram account, Kate said it was amazing to be back at Wimbledon and predicted Scot Andy Murray and British star Emma Raducanu would win the men’s and singles titles, jokingly describing those picks as an “unbiased opinion”.
Unfortunately for the Royal, that prediction fell flat as Murray was knocked out in the third round, beaten in straight sets by Canadian young gun Denis Shapovalov.
Meanwhile, Ons Jabeur became the first Tunisian woman to make the last 16 at Wimbledon when she defeated 2017 champion Garbine Muguruza 5-7 6-3 6-2 on Centre Court, but suffered a sickening mishap in full view of Kate.
Before match point, an ill Jabeur vomited — right in front of the Royal Box, where Kate was sitting.
ESPN’s Kathleen McNamee said Jabeur headed to the back of the court to throw up, adding: “Additionally for poor Jabeur, this was right in front of the Duchess of Cambridge and the Royal Box.”
After the match, Jabeur said: “I’m actually having a problem with my stomach. I have inflammation.
“It has been going on for a while. It bothers me probably with the stress.”
Kate was her usual trendy self, sporting a polka dot skirt, white top and navy blazer as she enjoyed the action, wearing a floral mask when required. She spent time in the Royal Box and also sat next to British tennis legend Tim Henman as they watched Jamie Murray — Andy’s brother — play doubles on Court 14.
Jamie had more luck than his sibling, as he and Brazilian partner Bruno Soares beat Vasek Pospisil and Nicholas Monroe 6-1 6-7 6-1.
Kate also visited the Wimbledon kitchen and had a go at adding the finishing touches to some treats for afternoon tea, praising the work the AELTC does in providing 200 hot meals a day for people in need.
She stopped by the Wimbledon museum too, taking a peek back in time of tennis’ most famous tournament.
