Jelena Dokic has unloaded on social media trolls making references to her weight as the Aussie tennis great demands change.

Former Australian tennis star Jelena Dokic has lashed out in an angry Instagram post, slamming people for body shaming her.

Dokic, who is commentating at the Australian Open for Nine, has been honest in the past about her mental health issues and struggles with her weight.

In 2020 she revealed how she had lost 53kg in 18 months and at last year’s Australian Open, took aim at trolls who were making nasty comments about her appearance.

Sadly, she’s been forced to issue a similar message this year too, calling out the “disgusting” behaviour of keyboard warriors.

“I can’t believe I have to address this again! I am being body shamed again and I am seeing comments and even articles about my weight and appearance. It’s disgusting behaviour,” Dokic wrote on Instagram, next to a recent photo of her taken at Melbourne Park.

“JUST STOP ALREADY. NOT JUST WHEN IT COMES TO ME BUT OTHER PEOPLE AS WELL, ESPECIALLY WOMEN.

“This is a serious problem and one that women face all the time.

“I have said it before and I will say it again, STOP COMMENTING ON MY WEIGHT AND SIZE. It is not kind and it’s ignorant.

“I am strong, I can take it and I don’t care about you but I will call it out. By doing this you might be doing damage and hurting someone else out there that you know nothing about and you have no idea what they might be going through.

“Stop judging me based on my size. You shouldn’t be judging me at all. Is my worth and if I am a good person really determined by my size?

“I get comments like, why are you so fat? Or, you are unrecognisable? And my favourite is, what happened to you?

Dokic posted this image of herself to Instagram late last year saying it was “sad to see people treat and look at others differently because of their size”.

“Well a s**t load has happened but I am here and I am fighting but that’s not what you care about. You only care about my weight and how to make fun of it.

“I am also seeing images that are photoshopped to make me look bigger and you can clearly see how my head is so disproportionate to my body. It’s disgusting and those who have done it should be ashamed of themselves and so should those that are writing articles about my weight.

“Would you do the same if it was your sister, mother or daughter in that position and how would you feel about them being body shamed? Think about that for a second.

“I have never hid the fact that I struggle with my weight. NEVER. It’s been a battle for me for a while especially since battling depression. But I am not ashamed of my size.

“I will continue to work on myself but not for the sake of looking better but feeling better and being healthier.”

Dokic thanked the “99 per cent” of people who support her, saying: “It means the world to me and I love you all.”

The 38-year-old’s comments come after she announced last week she had split up with her long-term partner of nearly 19 years, Tin Bikic, admitting: “This is hard. I am in pain, I am hurt, I am lost.”

Dokic has repeatedly spoken out bravely about the abuse she suffered at the hands of her dad Damir during her career. The former World No. 4 revealed she suffered physical abuse as a child and teenager almost every time her father was displeased with her performance on the tennis court.

In her 2017 biography Unbreakable, written with journalist Jessica Halloran, Dokic said the beatings were part of a systematic pattern of abuse from the man previously branded the “tennis dad from hell”.

About two months ago Dokic revealed on Instagram she was starting “a big project, something I am very passionate about and something that I think can help so many people”. She described it as “Unbreakable 2.0”, suggesting it was related to her autobiography and her past.
