Alex de Minaur has won through to the third round of the French Open for the first time with a straight sets win over Spaniard Jaume Munar.

It has taken eight attempts for the 25-year-old to finally crack his opening rounds hoodoo at Roland Garros, having failed to reach the last 32 in all previous seven attempts.

However, the world No. 11 showed promising form on the French clay and wasn’t troubled in the 7-5 6-1 6-4 victory.

She had plenty to smile about on Friday morning (AEST), however, with De Minaur taking just two hours to wrap up the match despite multiple rain delays throughout the day.

De Minaur faces German Jan-Lennard Struff, who knocked out world No.17 Alexander Bublik, in the third round.

De Minaur earlier this week proved he is the world’s best boyfriend after he made a late-night appearance on court watching Boulter in her first round match.

After his opening win against fiery American Alex Michelsen, de Minaur was seen cheering Boulter on from an outside showcourt.

A photo of the 25-year-old cheering Boulter on from the back of the court left plenty of fans commenting on his boyfriend skills.

One Twitter user wrote: “Then Alex wins the boyfriend game”.

Demon was asked about Boulter during an appearance on the Tennis Channel after his win over Michelsen.

“Safe to say that we don’t take it too hard if either of us don’t watch each other play because we obviously know that we’re getting ready, we’ve got to recover, got to do stuff to focus on yourself,” he said.
